LOCATION AND TERRITORY

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is located in the northeast corner of Italy.
To get to know one of Italy’s most versatile regions, a 'small digest of the universe'.
This varied region is characterized by different landscapes that go from the smooth hills of Collio to the picturesque Trieste coastline, from the middle-European architecture of Trieste to the graceful Venetian architecture of Udine and by different cultures, heritage of various invasions, which marked history.

The regional capital is Trieste. This region is bounded on the north by Austria and the east by Slovenia, the west by the Veneto and the south by the Adriatic Sea.
The northern half of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia is composed of mountains called the Prealpi, the Prealpi Carniche and the Prealpi Guilie to be exact, which terminate at the norther border, meeting the taller Alpi Carniche.

The region has a number of good beach resorts as well. Grado and Lignano probably offer you best value for money of all Italian beach resorts on the Adriatic coast.

Frico consists of cheese that has been fried like a pancake until it is crisp. Potatoes and other ingredients can be added, which makes the dish more of a frittata or omelet.

While the Friuli Venezia Giulia produces only about 2% of Italy total wine production, the wine is of very high quality and is often compared to the offerings of Piedmont and Tuscany, especially wines of the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC zone.

CLIMATE AND TRAVEL SEASON

The climate is distinguished with very warm days and chilly nights that help maintain a balance in the grape between acidity and sugar levels and allows the grapes a long, slow growing season.
In summertime the mean temperature is around 73 °F (22.8 °C) with rainfall.
All those who have spent at least some time in Trieste know what bora is.
The name bora comes from Greek and Latin borea meaning 'North' and refers a wind that blows all the year in Trieste and Istria/Istra. It can reach the speed of 150 or even 200 kms/h.
Therefore, look at the weather forecast before coming to Trieste and get dressed
